At 8:30pm on December 3, 1976, two Assassins broke into Bob Marley’s house, attempting to take him out. Despite four people being sh*t, everyone survived, including Bob, who was hit in the arm and chest.
The betrayal deeply hurt him, but just two days later, he defiantly performed at the Smile Jamaica Concert in front of 80,000 people. The day after, Marley left Jamaica, staying away for over a year. The surge in violence in Jamaica during the 1970s, notably during the Bob Marley era, was fueled by political rivalries, economic struggles, gang involvement, social inequality, and cultural tensions, all of which created a volatile environment in the country.
By 1978, political parties sought his influence for reform, leading to the plea for his return for the One Love Concert. The aim was to use Marley as an icon to promote unity between political spectrums.
the One Love Peace Concert was a big event. When Marley finished his performance, he made a radical decision to call both political leaders, Seaga and Manley, to the stage at the end of his performance. During his song “Jammin,” lightning literally struck the stage, marking a powerful moment in Marley’s symbolic impact on unity and peace.
A movie titled “Bob Marley: One Love” is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2024.
